Fri-yay Fast Feature: Rebecca Mehra
Looking forward to chatting with an elite 800 and 1500 meter runner
Super fast I wanted to feature one of my favorite fast athletes today on the blog — Rebecca Mehra! I first saw Rebecca at Sir Walter Miler in 2019 and recognized her as a Oiselle Haute Volée (elite team) athlete. Rebecca is a professional mid-distance runner specializing in the 800 meter and 1500 meter (roughly the mile for those of us less immersed in track & field). She trains under Lauren Fleshman on the Oiselle Littlewing team and is originally from LA, but now lives in Bend, Oregon. Rebecca attended Stanford where she studied International Relations (Bachelor’s degree) and Communications (Master’s degree) and was a three-time All-American. When Rebecca is not running, she works as the special assistant to the mayor in Bend, OR and as a campaign manager, or you may find her snuggling with her two cute kittens.
In 2020 Rebecca wrote a blog post on her experience growing up biracial (she’s the daughter of an Indian immigrant father and a Jewish mother from Long Island). She also went viral on Twitter after she helped an elderly couple get groceries early in the pandemic.
I went to the grocery store this afternoon. As I was walking in I heard a woman yell to me from her car. I walked over and found an elderly woman and her husband. She cracked her window open a bit more, and explained to me nearly in tears that they are afraid to go in the store.

Rebecca was also featured on the Ali on the Run podcast in September of last year. She’s all-around an awesome person and I’m super excited to get to chat with her this evening with the NC Oiselle Volée!
Pilot Mountain State Park in North Carolina is a popular place for hikers and runners, and is one of my favorite spots. It is close to Winston-Salem and has a very distinctive profile that lends it nicely as a landmark for navigation, and can be easily seen from some places in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
