Because roses die, chocolates don't last a day, and cards get thrown away, but memories will last a lifetime
Valentine's Day is around the corner - do you have plans?! You could do the usual Valentine's Day date of roses and candlelit dinner, but if you're bored by the same-old-same-old then consider an alternative Valentine's date. (Added bonus - you can do a Galentine's Day with these same activities!)
A short drive north of Durham there's a park that promises few crowds and fun trails for hikers and mountain bikers
The last time we went to Rougemont we were going to see a house, and on the way we ended up stuck behind, well, a house. A massive truck was moving this massive house down this tiny country road - a country farmhouse with whitewash peeling off the side boards, scraping past oaks whose branches creeped over the road's narrow shoulder. We managed to avoid any Rougemont houses this past weekend, making our way to Little River Regional Park & Natural Area, a cooperative conservation park funded by Durham and Orange counties.
Resistance is a marathon. Whether you are resisting opening that third box of girl scout cookies, resisting wanting to walk during your run, resisting wanting to quit, resisting stress and peer pressure, or even resisting social microaggressions and outright oppression, resistance is a marathon.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting the Guerra-Flores family and their newest addition! Welcome to the world sweet little one!
Oh hi, February! How are everyone's resolutions going?! Hopefully by now we've gotten past some of the difficulties of sticking to a fitness routine, we've reignited our resolutions, and we've identified some of our motivations and obstacles. For many people one obstacle to chasing fitness goals can be simply how to track progress, especially since tracking goals and setting smaller goals is so important for resolutions success! Back in October during my 31 day running streak I posted about a fitness tracking app called MapMyRun. I've used it since 2010 and this app is still by far my favorite tracking system, but over the years I've used a few different devices to track the data that goes into MapMyRun. I'm super excited to share my (not so humble) opinions with you, and point you to some great posts on other fitness trackers via a link-up with other members of the Triangle Area Bloggers (triFABB) group!
Last week I posted on Instagram saying if anyone wanted to join me on a Sunday Stroll to let me know, and I actually got quite a bit of feedback and interest. As a result I'm planning on trying out a calendar for people to see which hikes are coming up and what sort of effort and distance I tentatively expect. I figured it would also be helpful to establish some baseline expectations.
Ah, February. Celebrating love in a cold month, cutting out pink hearts on grey days...l'amore! Right? And there's so much more to do this month! But first, a January recap and then February goals.
I love running in circles. No seriously, I do! I love track workouts - the precision of the distance and the pace, the consistency, the controlled environment where you can push yourself and test yourself. How does that mile time measure up against your last attempt? How has your cadence improved? How far can you go on a hard effort?
