I'll be honest: I struggled my first time in a running group. I found it mentally exhausting to both push through my longest runs of my life and feign interest in others' personal lives for hours. But I pushed through, took some time to develop as a runner independently, and now have some thoughts on being a running group mentor.

Raleigh to Atlantic Beach. 200 miles. By car it's just about 3 hours, but by foot? Oh man, by foot! It's the Tuna Run 200 and I'm going to run it this weekend!
After I ran my very first half marathon in November 2014 I went back to the AirBnB rental, hopped in the shower, and screamed. I hadn't realized during the run that my sports bra had been chafing me for several miles, and when I finally took a shower the water rinsed all my sweat and salt into the bloody wound. Yeah, they don't have that saying "to rub salt in a wound" for nothing. The best way to handle chafed bits is to prevent chafing in the first place. Here are some tips!
Ah, the long run: Hours outside on tired legs while you try to convince yourself that you're not crazy (well, you are, but not in a bad way, right??). Sometimes you end up with long runs where the weather is perfect, the birds are chirping, the light is golden, the company is great, and you feel like you could go for miles and miles more after you've finished your run. These sort of blissed-out runs are a reminder of why we run in the first place: in pursuit of that quietly joyous mental state. But recently I've been stressed out in the morning grabbing all the items I need for my long run, so here's my list of 5 essential items!
Can you believe it's been two whole weeks with this whole running and writing streak?! Nope, I can't believe it. Nope nope nope. But sure enough - it's Day 14! Here are my stats for the week and a "Friday Favorites" recommendation!
There have been plenty of times when I've been on a long run and the mental endurance has just been a total drag. If you're not running with a buddy or you don't have some catchy tunes in your 'buds then it can be really hard to stay focused and push through the run. A great option is to listen to podcasts - here are my top 10 podcast picks!
What's in a mile? 5280 feet. 1609 meters. 1760 yards. 946 footsteps (give or take).
But what really goes into a mile? The sense of accomplishment after that first milestone or the joy of the new personal record, a mile is many things to many people
This weekend was a big deal in distance running events. And no, I'm not talking about the Olympics - the Rio Olympics and Paralympics are long over and done. Right now I'm talking about Kona and Chicago - read more about these big races on today's post!
