Empowering women in the outdoors

REI just announced a focus on women in the outdoors in 2017 called "Force of Nature." It's an attempt to counter the long-standing complaint about the outdoors industry: for too long the outdoors has been dominated by men. Men are on the covers of outdoorsy magazines, men are depicted in active ad campaigns, men get the best gear, men get featured on social media, men men men men.

New Gym CrossFit Homeward is Space for Hard Work and Play

There's nothing quite like a high intensity workout to get your blood and endorphins flowing first thing in the morning, and now there's a new CrossFit gym in Chapel Hill for exactly that. CrossFit Homeward celebrated its grand opening on Saturday with good food, good friends, and good workouts. The new space is located in University Mall off South Estes Drive next to Southern Season in Chapel Hill. Leading up to the grand opening I spent a week getting to know the gym, its community, and trying out some workouts, and found a place full of hard work and play.

The US Women's National Team (USWNT) won the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015 soccer tournament recently. After the confetti and awards ceremony and player interviews and the NYC ticker tape parade, there are still a lot of thoughts, opinions, and concerns regarding the state of women's soccer and how new fans can follow and support the sport.
